The 2 Input / 2 Output e-Controller unit is a device that transmits the state of its digital inputs to remote devices in order to control the state of its outputs. It is designed to remotely control different facility elements such as:

• Lighting
• Solenoid valves
• Contactors and circuit brakers
• Contact opening and closing
• Plug On/off switching

Its main advantage is that contact control between input and output devices is accomplished without the need of a single additional wire in the installation; since communication between devices takes place over the installation mains wiring, no additional wiring is required, thus avoiding the associated costs. Furthermore, this allows fitting the device in already existing buildings.

The e-Controller 2E/2S device includes 2 digital, phase switching type inputs, and 2 relay type, 5 Amp phase switching outputs to which either small loads or a contactor to switch higher consumption loads may be connected.

This device transmits the state of its inputs over the communication bus (the electric mains in this case) to remote devices that will actuate on its outputs based on input states. Two relay type outputs are included that operate based on data received over the electric mains.

The device includes two pushbuttons on its front panel to manually activate or deactivate the outputs. Two indicators show input states and another two indicators show output states.

Based on the EN 14908 LonWorks® communication standard, the e-Controller® product series takes advantage of the mains wiring as a means to transmit data, thus allowing the installer to conveniently locate equipment throughout the installation without the need to plan ahead for wiring between the lights, blind motors, etc. to be controlled and the control modules.

LonWorks® PowerLine technology provides robust and reliable communication in compliance with CENELEC, Band C standards (residential and commercial applications).


e-Controller is an ideal device for those installations where minimal cost is sought. It is also suited for any building where no new wiring spreading is possible and control on different contacts of the facility is required.


Device commissioning may be performed in either of two ways:

1) Self installation: the device includes an advanced self installation algorithm that provides for device commissioning with no computer or special software required. Through a pushbutton located on its front, the unit may be installed and allocated to a keypad, a presence or luminosity sensor or to any other device present in thenetwork that may remotely control the unit.

2) Installation with compatible LNS software tool: the device includes an XIF file documented network interface that allows integration into any LonWorks system. The device is LonMark compatible and includes the standard functional profiles as prescribed by the standards; they allow seamless integration of the device into any LonWorks network where equipment by other manufacturers may be present.

A network interface document is available that provides the required information to integrate the unit into any Lon facility, either using a twisted pair or PowerLine.
Changing from one means of communication to the other is accomplished by using a communication gateway that allows converting the TP/TF-10 (FFT-10) twisted pair electric signal to PowerLine. The communication protocol is not altered since it is still LonWorks, EN 14908-1 compliant.
